Jacob Deaven

Associate Attorney

Jacob Deaven is an associate attorney at Sims & Campbell, where his practice focuses on estate administration and estate-related litigation. Estate administration and litigation are stressful enough on their own, so Jacob’s main goal is to take as much of the burden off his clients as possible, keeping them informed without overwhelming them.

Jacob graduated magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he served as Executive Technology Editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review. A native New Mexican, he earned his B.A. with University Honors from New Mexico State University. His undergraduate research focused on American political philosophy and how it applies in practice to local, national, and foreign policy.

After law school, Jacob clerked for the Orphans’ Court for Baltimore City. There he gained firsthand experience with probate administration and worked with both attorneys and self-represented parties. Before joining Sims & Campbell, he practiced at firms where, at different points, he focused on estate administration, estate planning, and general litigation. He brings the full breadth of this experience to his work for Sims & Campbell clients.

Estate law is Jacob’s professional passion, but music is his personal joy. An active musician in the DMV, he has performed everywhere from Baltimore dive bars to the Concert Hall at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as well as at nationally and internationally attended events in several states. Jacob lives in Baltimore County with his wife and three cats. When not swept up in legal and musical matters, he and his wife enjoy traveling, going to the theater, and trying new restaurants.
